Back to Work: Project Nocturnal Progress Resumes

Hello everyone!

We’re back from our holiday break, feeling refreshed and ready to dive back into Project Nocturnal! The team is excited to pick up where we left off and continue pushing forward with development. Starting this week, we’ll also be resuming our weekly blog updates to keep you in the loop with all the latest progress.

Where We’re At

Before the break, we made some great strides in developing the world and refining the light gun mechanics. Here’s a quick recap of where things stand:

• Level Design: The main level is nearly complete, with a layout designed to encourage exploration while subtly guiding players through the environment. It’s been a challenge balancing complexity with clarity, but the results so far are promising.

• Light Gun: This central mechanic has come a long way, with its dual functionality of a frontal cone for close-range combat and a laser beam for ranged puzzles. The addition of light refraction and shadow dynamics has added an extra layer of depth and atmosphere.

What’s Next?

Now that we’re back, our focus is shifting to two key areas:

1. Puzzles and Narrative Integration: We’ll be fleshing out puzzles like light beam redirection, timed buttons, and movable obstacles. These will tie directly into the story, reinforcing the themes of fear, corruption, and rebirth.

2. Playtesting and Polishing: With the level design nearly finalized, we’re eager to get the first playable version ready for testing. This stage will allow us to refine mechanics, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the game feels cohesive and engaging.
